This grand old Louisiana Cajun style house is out of place in the middle of a field in Haywood County, it's not known why this particular style was built so far from the deep South where it is common.
The Big Black Creek Historical Association would like to save this building from certain destruction but there are not enough funds to cover the required move and restoration.
The Shaw House. The Shaw family were wealthy farmers in these parts in the early 1800's.
This room has no entrance to the main part of the house, the only access was from the front porch. We believe it was a traveler's room, a room country folk kept for travelers to spend a night as they passed through the area,
The front porch.
The wood work was all handmade including the individual acorns.
The rear porch.. It would have been a great view looking across the fields.
The main room downstairs.
The hand cut stairway must have been beautiful.
Part of the upstairs.
The original colors and paint are still evident on all of the walls throughout the house.
